Do you need an advisor?
Below are some questions to ask yourself about your current situation. If you happen to answer YES to ANY of these questions, then it is very possible that an advisor could greatly benefit you. While the below questions are not the only times that an advisor could be needed, they are the most common that we see when people are on the fence about getting help with their money. Are you a high earner in (or close to) a top tax bracket?
Part of OWS role is to try and minimize the amount you owe in taxes with personalized tax planning inside of your financial plan. This can help protect your savings now and when you get into retirement.
Are you expecting a big life event?
Whether you are on the brink of a monumental career move or business deal, getting married or expanding your family, having someone who can map out possible outcomes and protect your money at the same time can be crucial for your future.
Are you planning to retire in the next 3-6 years?
The years just prior to retirement are critical in setting yourself up for success. OWS will take a look at your current investments and offer guidance on where you should focus your savings/investments currently, as well as where your retirement income should come from at the beginning, middle and tail end of your retirement. (note: they are almost always going to be from different places!)
Is your only investment a 401(k)?
Having and contributing to a 401(k) is wonderful, especially if you have an employer who will match some of what you put in. But these withdrawals from these type of accounts are subject to income tax, so it may be more beneficial for you to contribute to another type of account as well.
Are you looking for college savings strategies?
College is expensive, and if you are planning on taking on the cost of someone’s education, now is the time to start planning how that looks. Things like accelerated gifting or opening a 529 plan could be a good option, but there are several other ways your advisor can help optimize your savings and enhance your growth potential while doing so, while also keeping things like taxes and your retirement plans in mind.
Does the unpredictability of the market give you added stress?
Being current on market trends, predictions and numbers are a big part of OWS responsibility to their clients. It is literally part of the job, so the wealth of knowledge that an advisor has can be incomparable to someone who has other job responsibilities they need to focus on.
